I come from a very big family and I am the youngest out of my first cousins. I have always wanted a younger sibling or a younger cousin that I could take care of and play with, so when my first cousins started having kids I was extremely happy.
I was particularly close with one of my cousins’ families who lived close to me. When they had their kids, I would beg my mom to take me to their house so I could play with their one toddler, and hold their baby boy. Most of my weekends in grade school were spent at their house to spend time with my baby cousins.
When my cousin was having her third child, she found out it was going to be a girl. I was so happy for her and excited for a new baby cousin. She sat down with me one day and asked me a question I never would have expected. She asked me if I would be the Godmother of her third child because she believed I would be a good role model. I was very happy and excited that I was given the opportunity, so I of course said yes.
My goddaughter’s name is Emily, who is now four years old. I still see their family regularly when I babysit them or at family events around the holidays. Emily can be sassy, but is also a very funny little girl, and I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to be her godmother.
