Getting My Dogs

Ever since I was a little girl, there was always one thing that I truly wanted that I could not have. I wanted a dog. Every year for Christmas, I would ask Santa to get me a dog and every year I would wake up with a look of disappointment on my face when I opened a stuffed animal dog. I got so upset that Santa could never get it right, so eventually I started begging my parents. For thirteen years of my life, my parents would answer my plead with a hard no. Every time they would say no, I just became more determined to make them say yes. When I was in eighth grade, I decided I was going to make them say yes. I went to my computer and looked up dog breeders that were near where I lived. Eventually, I came across a reliable dog breeder who lived an hour away from me. He was selling puppies that had just been born and they were Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix. I knew that this was the perfect puppy for my family, since the breed does not shed and they don’t grow very big. This was important to my mom because she loves when things are neat, and a shedding dog would not be ideal for her. I also knew the dog we got had to be small because my family travels a lot so traveling with a small dog would be much easier.

After I knew that this type of dog was the perfect match, I created a powerpoint. I included reasons why we should get a dog, such as they can make you happy and less stressed when you pet them. I also stated all the ways in which I would take care of them, including training techniques I found on the internet. I printed the powerpoint out with the listing of the dogs I found, and neatly laid it on my parents bed. When my dad found the powerpoint, he came into my room and said he would consider my request. This was great news for me, because it was the first response I got that wasn’t a no. After about a week of consideration, my mom came to me and told me she put a down payment on not only one of the dogs, but two of them. On June 8th, my mom and I drove an hour to pick up our families two new puppies and it was the greatest day of my life.
