In May of 2019, my parents decided to take a family trip to Ireland. My family is very Irish, so my parents had been planning on doing this trip for quite some time. They figured May of 2019 was the perfect time because I was the youngest child and I was finally 18 and done with high school. Although it was not my first time out of the country, my experience was like no other. We went for 10 days, and stayed in Killarney, Galway, Dublin and Westport. There were so many things I noticed that were different from America. There were no trashcans anywhere. We often found ourselves holding wrappers and empty water bottles while walking around because there were no trash cans on the sidewalks, only in establishments. Another thing I noticed was there was live music everywhere, and everyone wanted to listen and sing along. This is different from America because when I hear small bands play, a lot of people tend to ignore the music and carry on with their conversations. In Ireland everyone was dancing and singing along, while many people gathered around to watch the bands play. During my trip, I realized how beautiful Ireland is. There’s a lot of little towns, but once we drove out of the towns it was a lot of green land and sheep. The sheep had certain colors and markings on them that looked like spray paint, which we found out were there to identify which farmer they belonged to. They would often walk on the roads and block the cars from going by. This was funny and strange at the same time because the drivers would often get annoyed and honk at them, but the sheep would take their time crossing the street. We visited ruins, waterfalls, and beaches that were breathtaking. The pictures I took on my phone don’t even compare to the actual feeling I got by looking at these beautiful places. It was an experience of a lifetime.
